System Dialogue

Highlights

The Community Team at EIT Climate-KIC has been dedicated to fostering a worldwide climate action movement. Their efforts focus on simplifying the entry process to the community for all types of projects and initiatives while also establishing connections between grassroots civic initiatives and influential institutional leaders.

Within this strategic framework, the team devised a set of objectives and key results that unfolded throughout 2020. Among them was rethinking the internal and external community structure which faced the challenge of disconnection and remote work.

Leveraging online collaboration tools, holding personalised biweekly meetings, and conducting coaching exercises the team enhanced its internal collaborative infrastructure, refining its scope, and driving forward the initiatives for the year 2020.

In addition, a community summit  called “Dialogues in Action” was launched, in which the broader network was invited to participate in different dialogue sessions around the question "How can we shape a post-crisis scenario with a fresh narrative?"

Challenge: (Re)connecting the internal team to effectively work remotely

Our collaboration with EIT Climate-KIC was clearly divided into 2 steps. The first one involved recalibrating the internal objectives and the workflows of the Community Team.

For this purpose, we leveraged online collaboration tools to facilitate biweekly personalised meetings that involved coaching exercises to invigorate its members and create new workflows to enhance their communication. The goal was to help them embrace the potential of working remotely, without impacting collaboration.

Once the collaborative operating system was in place within the internal team, we were ready for the second step.

Amplifying EIT Climate-KIC mission and objectives within the broader community

Departing from the idea that every moment counts when it comes to change, we co-designed with EIT Climate-KIC and newkinco an online platform able to activate a community of more than 600 people by harnessing social momentum.

Within the platform, users could find other like-minded people, post relevant content and host online conferences. This aggregator of moments related to climate innovation served as a research platform to exchange knowledge and activate collaboration.

Besides, we conducted a 2-day live-streamed conference hosting 40 dialogue sessions, with more than 270 participants from 45 countries.

The results: A recalibrated team, a stronger community and EIT Climate-KIC vision validation

EIT Climate-KIC sought to amplify its mission's recognition and validate its vision within the community, while also establishing connections with akin communities. This involved customising a functional and cooperative framework for EIT Climate-KIC's Community Team, thus enhancing their ability to autonomously organise and facilitate efficient digital communication with partners and the wider network.

The Moments Matter platform and The Dialogues in Action conference, underwent a process of clarification and refinement, simplifying the development of a network consisting of 1,500 users representing 45 countries and 91 cities. This network played a pivotal role in expanding the project's reach and the mission to activate consciousness about what we can do in the face of climate change.
